Most expat mums believe that living in a foreign country that speaks a different language or adopts a different culture is the biggest obstacle they face in bringing up their children abroad. However, almost all of them assert that such an experience has been enriching for their children.

Yvone Spratt is an expat British mum of four grown-up children aged 24 to 35. Having raised her four children in New Zealand, Spratt finds that such an experience has been very positive for them.

“My children did not seem to have any problems, except being teased about their accent," says Spratt. "They made friends easily with people from all cultures. We feel it was a good experience for them and enhanced their appreciation of other nationalities and cultures.”
