Early Life of Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 18, 1937 to Jack and Virginia Thompson. After the death of his father at age 14, Hunter was accepted into the Athenaeum Literary Association, a celebrated social club, dating its origins to the 19th century.
Thompson's Legal Issues
As a member, he contributed countless articles and operated as editor for the club's yearbook. However, the members expelled him due to his constant run-ins with the law. For instance, at the age of eighteen, he was charged as an accessory to robbery, sentenced to 60 days in jail, forcing him to miss his high school graduation.
